RESOLUTION REQUESTING HONORABLE SENATOR RICHARD “DICK” J. GORDON, CHAIRMAN OF THE SENATE COMMITTEE ON TOURISM, PHILIPPINE SENATE, MANILA, TO APPROPRIATE AND RELEASE AN AMOUNT OF ONE MILLION PESOS (P1,000,000,00) FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE PUNTA CRUZ WATCH TOWER AND PARK OF THE MUNICIPALITYOF MARIBOJOC, BOHOL.
Authored by : Hon. Fructuoso F. Redulla, Jr.
WHEREAS, one of the flagship programs of the present administration is the full promotion of our-eco-tourism industry;
WHEREAS, Maribojoc, Bohol, an idyllic town by the bay, north of Tagbilaran City, hosts the historical Punta Cruz Watch Tower, a centuries-old 50 foot tower made of table stones, that served the natives of Maribojoc in the look-out for marauding pirates during the Spanish era;
WHEREAS, aside from the stone tower, its centuries-old wooden cross also hold deep secrets in its rich history, as the cross allegedly detached from its trunk and barred the pirates’ boats from gaining entrance into the mouth of Maribojoc Bay;
WHEREAS, the sprawling landscape dotted with verdant greens that surround the area, is a veritable haven for business conferences, family gatherings and leisurely get-aways once the place is developed into a resort and park as envisioned by the local government’s eco-tourism master plan;
WHEREAS, all these plans can only bear fruition once the project is infused with enough funds which the council candidly admits can only be from the office of the good senator, who chairs the Tourism Committee in the Senate since the LGU’s financial capacity to undertake such project cannot be relied upon, it being a fifth class municipality and therefore IRA-dependent;;
WHEREFORE, be it resolved, as it is hereby resolved by the Sangguniang Bayan in their session duly assembled to request the Honorable Richard J. Gordon, Senator. Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means, to appropriate and release the amount of One Million Pesos (P1,000,000.00), out of his discretionary fund, for the development of the historical Punta Cruz Watch Tower and Park of the municipality of Maribojoc, Bohol.
BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER, that copies of this resolution be furnished the office of Senator Richard J. Gordon, Philippine Senate, Manila for his information and kind consideration.
Unanimously adopted.
